We are seeking an educational leader to assume the role of Assistant Principal at Calkins Road Middle School.  As an educational leader, the successful candidate will be responsible, under the direction of the Principal, for supporting day-to-day operations and positively impacting each student's personal development and future success through maximizing academic performance, social-emotional learning and the creation and maintenance of a safe environment.

Calkins Road Middle School serves approximately 600 students in grades 6–8 and has 143 staff members.  Consistently ranked as one of the top schools in New York State, Calkins Road is proud of the depth and breadth of opportunities it provides for students to learn and grow through academics, the arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities.

Start date: July 1, 2026, or as soon thereafter as reasonably possible. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

To assist the Middle School Principal in the performance of his/her duties.  Under the guidance and direction of the Middle School Principal, serve as an educational leader in the assigned Middle School and exercise administrative responsibility to maximize academic performance and provide for each child’s safety, personal development and future success. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES 

1. In a team relationship with the principal, maintains a safe, orderly and supportive environment in which all students can be successful. 

2. Provides leadership responsibility for developing and carrying out the school's disciplinary procedures. 

3.  Participates on building and district committees as needed or required. 

4. Participates in the orientation of new faculty, by interpreting policies and procedures, counseling with teachers about student problems, teaching methods and classroom management techniques. 

5. Provides support to the Principal in the development of the building schedule and procedures for student scheduling. 

6. Works with the Principal in a team relationship to determine procedures and strategies for the general administration of the school. 

7. To the extent assigned by the Principal, assumes responsibility for school attendance procedures, including a system of record keeping, absentee follow-up (including parent communication), special attendance arrangements or problems and other administrative requirements related to attendance. 

8. To the extent assigned by the Principal, coordinates the scheduling and use of the building and facilities for use by the school, the district and the community. 

9. To the extent assigned by the Principal, supervises the functions of the building registrar, including the recording and maintenance of student records and transcripts. 

10. To the extent assigned by the Principal, exercises administrative responsibility for such requirements as: 

          a. student activity fund accounting (working with building treasurer)  

          b. locker assignments 

          c. examination schedule preparation 

11. Performs special assignments delegated by the Principal. 

12. Assists the Principal in the supervision and evaluation of staff. This includes all aspects of the District Teacher Evaluation Program. 

13. Assists the principal in the development of personnel reports, faculty handbooks, bulletins and other communications to the faculty. 

14. Develops the annual Parent-Student Handbook. 

15. Maintains accurate student records of attendance and behavior. 

16. Works with the Principal to ensure that student and staff achievements receive appropriate recognition. 

17. Maintains professional relationships with parents and other members of the community in school activities and in the areas of student discipline, grading and attendance. 

18. Supports the Principal, the school district and the Board of Education in keeping students, parents and the community informed about school practices and programs. 

19. To the extent assigned by the principal, participates in the development and administration of the building budget. 

20. Works to resolve student transportation issues. 

21. Performs such other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Middle School Principal.
