Pittsford is a prosperous, residential, suburban community located seven miles southeast of Rochester, New York. Pittsford is known for its historic village, fine suburban neighborhoods, and excellent schools.
First settled in 1789, the Village of Pittsford contains tree-shaded streets lined with historic homes and a diverse array of specialty retail shops, services, and restaurants. A stone’s throw from Main Street, renovated historic mills and warehouses, and a bustling waterfront promenade overlook the Erie Canal.
Outside of the village are older and newer neighborhoods and a vibrant suburban commercial district. Set within Pittsford’s rolling landscape are two college campuses, numerous private golf courses, a fine park system, and farmland. The Town of Pittsford has been widely recognized for its efforts to preserve open space and agricultural lands. At the south end of town is the 2,700-acre Mendon Ponds Park. Containing ponds, glacial topography, and miles of trails, the park is a popular destination for hiking, horseback riding and cross country skiing.
Metropolitan Rochester has a population of one million people and a resilient economy anchored by high-tech industries and established services. The area has a large arts community and many cultural opportunities. In addition, numerous local colleges and universities offer a wide variety of cultural and educational programs. The area offers easy access to the nearby Finger Lakes, Adirondack Mountains, and Toronto, Canada.
