Head of Maintenance

Thank you for your interest in Pittsford Schools! The Pittsford Central School District is looking for a Head of Maintenance. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of building, installation, maintenance and repair tasks in one or more of the electrical, mechanical or construction trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical repair, welding, sheet metal work, auto mechanics, masonry, sewage facilities maintenance, and water distribution systems. The work may also involve the operation and routine maintenance of motor vehicles, ground-keeping equipment, and other power-driven equipment. Employees work under general supervision, allowing for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Direct supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate maintenance personnel. Does related work as required. This is a 12-month, 260 workday position, 7am-4pm with overtime, Monday–Friday with some weekend and night work based on work needs. 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (All need not be performed in a given position. Other related activities may be performed although not listed.)

  • Perform a wide variety of tasks of ordinary difficulty relating to the electrical, mechanical, or construction trades
  • Ability to manage and process payroll, billing, and attendance records for department 
  • Ability to manage work order requests and assign work to individuals in department
  • Ability to monitor, adjust, problem solve, diagnose HVAC systems
  • Ability to supervise subordinate maintenance personnel in a professional manner
  • Install, maintain, repair, replace and rebuild electrical fixtures, equipment and wiring systems
  • Install, maintain, repair, replace and rebuild plumbing equipment and systems including 
  • Install, maintain, repair and rebuild sewer and water distribution systems
  • Clean, maintain, and repair boilers, pumps, heaters, piping, valves, traps, compressors, and generators 
  • Perform a wide variety of steam fitting, forging, welding, sheet metal fabricating or machine shop activities
  • Mix cement and plaster, lay bricks and blocks, plaster walls, finish concrete work, stone cutting, and other related masonry work
  • Build, install, maintain, and repair, refinish, assemble doors, stairs, walks, floors, desks, chairs, cabinets, shelves, tables, windows, locks, carpets, ceilings, roofs, gutter systems, weather stripping, paneling, and other parts of buildings
  • Prepare, paint and/or refinish wood, metal and other surfaces
  • Install, maintain and/or repair upholstery, glass, clocks, meters and other miscellaneous items
  • Perform minor preventative mechanical maintenance tasks on motor vehicles and grounds equipment, disassemble and repair lawnmowers, and hydraulic attachments 
  • Install and maintain signs, traffic islands and place road markings using hand-operated machinery or pre-formed markings
  • Oil and grease equipment such as cranes, air compressors, and air hoists and perform necessary repair work
  • Operate automobiles, trucks, air compressors, riding/push lawnmowers, snowplows and other motorized equipment
  • Erect fences, bleachers, goalposts, repair sprinklers and drainage systems, install playground and athletic equipment
  • Perform ground maintenance work, such as fence installation and repair, sign fabrication and repair, equipment (including athletic) repair, lawn cutting and maintenance (such as trimming, planting, weeding) and ice and snow treatment and removal

Grounds Equipment Operator

The Pittsford Central School District is looking for a grounds equipment operator. The grounds maintenance position involves upkeep of lawns, turf, grass, trees, shrubs, flowerbeds, sidewalks, driveways, and building exteriors. The successful candidate may operate grounds motorized equipment or light-weight trucks for tending the lawns and for hauling materials and refuse. Work involves manual labor and is done under various weather conditions, including extremes of heat and cold, humidity, or inclement conditions. The work schedule will be Monday–Friday, 8am–4pm. This is a 12-month (260 workdays) position. 

Typical Work Activities: All need not be done in a given position. Other related activities may be performed although not listed. 

  • Mowing lawns, trimming, edging of walkways, flowerbeds, walls, fences, hedges, punning of trees and shrubs
  • Pick up leaves, brush and litter
  • Plowing or shoveling snow and spreading salt on walkways, steps, driveways, crossings
  • Repairing and painting fences, gates, walks, walls, tables, benches, and guardrails
  • Installing playground and athletic equipment
  • Maintaining, marking, relining of athletic fields
  • Cleaning out gutters, drainage ditches, culverts, and catch basins
  • Operating manual, power tools and equipment
  • Operating light trucks to deliver supplies and cart debris, loads and unloads trucks
  • Operating a variety of tractors and small equipment for moving and general transport
  • Performing minor preventive maintenance tasks on ground equipment or vehicles

Cleaner/Custodian

The Pittsford Central School District is actively seeking cleaner/custodial personnel. There are district-wide openings, full and part-time positions, days, evenings, and Saturday shifts. Location, work schedule, and pay rate to be discussed between the successful candidate and district personnel.    

Typical Work Activities: All need not be performed in a given position and other related activities may be performed although not listed.

  • Clean and wash bathroom facilities
  • Sweep, wet mop and dust mop hard surface floors, hallways, stairwells, and entrances
  • Dust, polish, and clean office and school furniture, electrical fixtures, woodwork, stair railings, radiators, and blinds
  • Wash marks, stains, and fingerprints on walls, tables, chairs, desks, cupboards, counters and glass
  • Vacuum carpets and stuffed furniture
  • Empty wastebaskets into large trash containers
  • Clean and wash lavatory fixtures
  • Fill dispensers with soap and disposable paper products
  • Secure and lock windows and office and classroom doors
  • Turn off lights and unplug small electrical appliances
  • Straighten office, classroom, and cafeteria furniture
  • Wash chalkboards and dry-erase boards 
  • Wash windows
  • Set up of cafeteria or conference room for events and meetings
