Head Custodian - Calkins Road Middle School

The Pittsford Central School District is looking for a Head Custodian for Calkins Road Middle School. This is a 12-month, 260 days a year, Monday through Friday, 6:00am - 3:00pm position. The position is a supervisory custodial/maintenance position responsible for the efficient and economical cleaning and maintenance of the building or other types of facilities. The successful candidate will report directly to, and work under the general supervision of, a higher level staff member with considerable leeway, allowing for the exercise of independent judgment in keeping the building and equipment up to approved standards of cleanliness and operation. General supervision is exercised over lower level staff such as Cleaners, Laborers, and Custodians. Does related work as required. 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (All need not be performed in a given position. Other related activities may be performed although not listed)

  • Supervise and schedule the work of subordinates
  • Conduct inspections of maintenance activities to ensure they are performed according to regulations
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies
  • Assist with maintenance and custodial work as necessary
  • Ensure basic security of buildings (ex. windows, doors, roof hatches are secure)
  • Maintain records on maintenance work performed and equipment
  • Conduct monthly inspections of fire extinguishers and playgrounds (and related equipment)
  • Conduct daily routine inspections (ex. takes readings) of areas/equipment such as fan rooms, boilers, walk-in coolers/freezers, and swimming pools (leaks, pumps etc.)
    Review time cards
  • Inspect work performed by contractors
  • Supervise the maintenance of grounds where applicable

Maintenance Mechanic

Thank you for your interest in Pittsford Schools! The Pittsford Central School District is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of building, installation, maintenance and repair tasks in one or more of the electrical, mechanical or construction trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical repair, welding, sheet metal work, auto mechanics, masonry, sewage facilities maintenance, and water distribution systems. General instructions are received regarding work of ordinary difficulty and detailed instructions are given for new or difficult assignments. Work will be reviewed by an immediate supervisor or other higher level staff member. The candidate will need to possess the ability to do related work as required. This is a 12-month, 7am-4pm Monday–Friday position. 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (All need not be performed in a given position. Other related activities may be performed although not listed.)

  • Perform a wide variety of tasks of ordinary difficulty relating to the electrical, mechanical, or construction trades
  • Install, maintain, repair, replace and rebuild electrical fixtures, equipment and wiring systems
  • Install, maintain, repair, replace and rebuild plumbing equipment and systems including, but not limited to, faucets, toilet fixtures, and drinking fountains
  • Install, maintain, repair and rebuild sewer and municipal water distribution systems
  • Perform steam fitting, forging, welding, sheet metal fabricating or machine shop activities
  • Mix plaster and concrete and is responsible for laying bricks and blocks, plastering walls, finishing concrete work, stone cutting, and related masonry work
  • Install and perform routine repairs of carpets, floors, ceilings, insulating materials, roofs, gutter systems, weather stripping, paneling, shelves, doors, windows and other parts of buildings
  • Make, assemble, install, repair, maintain, rebuild, and refinish furniture, floors, doors, walls, cabinets, stairs, and other wood products, equipment and structures
  • Prepare, paint and/or refinish wood, metal and other surfaces
  • Install, maintain and/or repair upholstery, glass, clocks, meters and other miscellaneous items
  • Perform mechanical repairs on automobiles, trucks, tractors and other mechanical and motorized equipment
  • Install and maintain signs, traffic islands and place road markings using hand-operated machinery or pre-formed markings
  • Oil and grease equipment such as cranes, air compressors, and air hoists and perform necessary repair work
  • Operate automobiles, trucks, air compressors, riding/push lawnmowers, snowplows and other motorized equipment
  • Perform ground maintenance work, such as fence installation and repair, sign fabrication and repair, equipment (including athletic) repair, lawn cutting and maintenance (such as trimming, planting, weeding) and ice and snow treatment and removal

Cleaner/Custodian

The Pittsford Central School District is actively seeking cleaner/custodial personnel. There are district-wide openings, full and part-time positions, days, evenings, and Saturday shifts. Location, work schedule, and pay rate to be discussed between the successful candidate and district personnel.

  • Clean and wash bathroom facilities
  • Sweep, wet mop and dust mop hard surface floors, hallways, stairwells, and entrances
  • Dust, polish, and clean office and school furniture, electrical fixtures, woodwork, stair railings, radiators, and blinds
  • Wash marks, stains, and fingerprints on walls, tables, chairs, desks, cupboards, counters and glass
