Job Description

The Pittsford Central School District is looking for an Accompanist. This position will be responsible for playing the piano and other musical instruments as an accompanist. The successful candidate will perform accompanist work in classrooms, concerts, and recital settings. Accompanist will work with music teachers and be under the general supervision of building administration. Supervision of others is not a responsibility, but the candidate will need to have the ability to do other related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (All need not be performed in a given position. Other related activities may be performed although not listed.):

• Accompany school vocal music groups and vocal or instrumental soloists at rehearsals, concerts, competitions and recitals, and in daily classroom instruction
• Assist the music teacher in preparing classroom materials, repairing sheet music, and maintaining records
• Accompany individuals and small groups of students as an adjunct to the regular teaching program, under the direction of the music teacher
• Work directly with students individually and/or in small groups
• Demonstrate different piano and other musical instrumental styles
• Maintain records, files sheet music and instructional materials

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

• (A) One year of paid full time or its part time/volunteer equivalent experience as an accompanist working with choral groups or small ensembles; OR
• (B) One year of college level musical instrumental studies; OR
• (C) Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

NOTE: Appointments to this position follow a successful musical audition.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND BOCES: Per Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district or BOCES as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.
