Thank you for your interest in Pittsford Schools! We are seeking an outstanding leader to serve as the next principal of Jefferson Road Elementary School.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as educational leader in the assigned Elementary School and exercises administrative responsibility for the overall operation of that school. Maximizes academic performance and provides for each child’s safety, personal development and future success.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Recommends and encourages major curriculum revisions and adjustments in order to meet the needs of students, assists in their development, and ensures their implementation.
2. Organizes classes and student schedules which are designed to utilize staff effectively, provides equitable opportunities for students, and promotes a school environment conducive to teaching and learning.
3. Counsels with teachers to assist them in solving instructional problems, and provides for exchange of views and ideas within the staff by creating a collaborative atmosphere for solving school problems.
4. Meets with students, staff and parents in a counseling relationship, and ensures that the staff uses accepted procedures for testing and evaluating student progress, reporting to parents, and conducting parent conferences.
5. Encourages staff development in the improvement of instruction by assisting in the development and administration of in-service education programs and urging individual staff to participate.
6. Maintains good order in the school and classrooms by setting up and administering standards of students behavior which permit a positive climate for teaching and learning.
7. Keeps abreast of research findings, theories and practices related to the teaching/learning process.
8. Works with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and other building principals in developing and maintaining an articulated program of instruction for all students in the district.
9. Recommends the creation of new staff positions, the abolishment of existing positions, changes in job descriptions and works with the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources in the process of selecting new staff members for the school.
10. Supervises and evaluates the total school staff with the assistance of Department Leaders and ensures the effective use of part-time specialists assigned to the school.
11. Secures, assigns and provides orientation and assistance for substitute teachers.
12. Assigns and provides for the supervision of student teachers practicing in the schools.
13. Supervises the office staff in maintaining sound office procedures and keeping and reporting adequate records for employees and students.
14. Recommends personnel policies which will improve the effectiveness of the school's program.
15. Establishes open channels of communication within the school and between schools in the district to promote understanding and cooperation.
16. Interprets the school's program to the Board of Education and public through the use of written reports, personal appearances, public appearances, public meetings, open houses, informational bulletins, and the use of newspaper articles and media reports.
17. Supervises health and safety in the building by working with the staff in organizing safety regulations, reporting serious accidents, making periodic inspections, and organizing and supervising appropriate drills.
18. Works with cafeteria manager and head custodian to see that health standards are met and that work is performed efficiently.
19. Provides systematic procedures for the business affairs of the school including: processing requisitions, inventorying school property, scheduling field trips and other transportation requirements, and coordinating the scheduling of evening and weekend activities in the building.
20. Assists in formulating and assumes responsibility for carrying out administrative regulations and Board of Education policies appropriate to the operation of the total school program.
21. Performs such other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or their designee.
