PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

At Pittsford Schools, we pride ourselves on maintaining a safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing environment for our students, staff, and families. As we prepare for the busy summer season, we are seeking reliable and motivated individuals to join our team as a Summer Grounds Helper. This is a labor position involving the performance of cleaning duties in the upkeep of building interiors and exteriors. Work involves following simple routines and procedures in accomplishing tasks. Employees will work under the direct supervision of a custodian, head custodian, or a buildings and grounds supervisor who will assign tasks and inspects completed work.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

As a Summer Grounds Helper, you will play a vital role in maintaining the overall appearance and functionality of our grounds. Working under the supervision of our groundskeeping team, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

1. Grounds Maintenance with Landscaping Support
   • Sweep, rake, pick up outside area of trash or debris
   • Mow the lawn using a push or riding lawnmower
   • Trimming grounds, shrubbery
2. Trash Removal
3. Equipment Operation
4. Assisting with Special Projects
5. Clean exterior of buildings      
6. Assist in unloading, moving, handling and delivery of equipment, furniture and supplies
7. Paints rooms and equipment

1. TITLE:  Summer Grounds Helper
2. DURATION: Seasonal/Summer, 30+ hours per week
3. CERTIFICATION: None - Must be 18 years or older

Good working knowledge of:

• Cleaning practices
• Tool use
• Basic maintenance procedures
• Floor cleaning and lawn mowing equipment
• Basic repair skillset

Additionally, the successful candidate should possess:

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
• Ability to comprehend Material Safety Data Sheets, Product Safety Data Sheets, and Safety Data Sheets
• Ability to perform at a steady pace
• Good judgment
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and operating equipment for extended periods
• Strong work ethic, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
