Job Description

The Pittsford Central School District is currently seeking a network technician. A network technician is an entry-level technical position involving responsibility for the installation, operation and repair of user equipment that comprises part of the telecommunications network such as microprocessors, computer terminals, printers and modems. The successful candidate will report directly to and work under the general supervision of a senior staff member. The technician will travel to various locations within the district to service computer equipment and related work as required.  

Job Specifications:

  • Hours: 37.5 per week
  • 12-month Position
  • 8:00AM-4:30PM (1 Hour Lunch)
  • Salary Range: $53,350 - $86,350 annually + benefits as outlined in the Supervisory and Technical Association Agreement

Duties:

  • Install microcomputer systems, software and peripherals at user locations.
  • Diagnose problems with microcomputer hardware/software and take corrective action.    
  • Perform simple repairs and preventive maintenance to microcomputer and peripheral equipment.
  • Test new hardware at a central site prior to installation.
  • Collaborate with technology staff and BOCES to support and assist with district wide network, network servers and peripheral devices.
  • Maintain inventory records on all computers, printers, network equipment and all other related equipment.
  • Attend training, in-service, and conferences in order to keep abreast of the latest technology available.          
  • Assist in research of new technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS :

Working knowledge of computer operation and equipment usage; working knowledge of the operation of peripheral equipment; working knowledge of electronics as it pertains to the installation of user equipment; ability to maintain records and keep an inventory of equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with others; skill in testing network communication signals and identifying problems; willingness to travel to other locations; initiative; good motor skills; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.


Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in an information technology related field; OR,
  • Two (2) years of paid full-time or part-time equivalent experience in the operation, installation, or maintenance/repair of a computer network server or network operating system; OR, 
  • Successful completion of a recognized course in computer operations and repair such as training courses offered by the military, computer hardware vendors or consultants or any other training course providing "hands on" computer operation experience, plus one (1) year paid full-time or part-time equivalent experience as described in (B), OR;
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), or (C) above.

NOTE: Applicants qualifying under option (C) must submit a certificate, diploma or letter of confirmation in support of satisfactory program completion. Computer operations shall not include experience in the operation of word processing equipment, or a personal computer, microcomputer or any other self-contained unit.

 

**Successful candidate must possess or be able to sit for the next civil service network technician exam.**
